And at 300 watts I'm sure there won't be a need for more power as I play small to medium size rooms for the most part. Series of experiments I'll be doing this week. I have not tried a mic with it yet - that's the next Much better treble response than my old AG100D, excellent clarity and balance without being harsh (which is something I don't like about Fishman amps, although obviously many people love Fishman), and as an added bonus it is smaller and a bit lighter. So I may have been overly aware of the deep bass end in my (quiet) studio but in spite of the potential for too much bass in the small but LOUD room at the coffee shop, it was just fine.īottom line: the AG300 sounded very, very good indeed. Also, I did all my initial dialing in while playing in my home studio where I teach my regular Saturday gig is at a local coffee shop/restaurant with wood floor and very little to absorb sound on the walls. So what it would have sounded like if I'd done a job with one of the other groups I sometimes gig with and strum might have been quite different. I play primarily finger style arrangements of jazz, blues, bossa nova/Latin, pop and singer/songwriter stuff, all instrumental. Ended up finding a pretty good balance with the J-15 so that guitar went to the gig. The mids were good with both guitars but if anything they were too good - every little finger scrape or bit of extraneous string noise was way too obvious. However, it was difficult to get the crispness in the treble end I wanted and in spite of dialing the bass setting way back it was still just too overpowering in the bass end. ADMIN MOD Discussion: is Kiesel getting too expensive Getting some dream guitars are getting harder to build. Post pictures of your Kiesel/Carvin guitars, share news, custom options, custom mockups, etc. Surprisingly, the M-36 sounded better without the K&K pre-amp I usually use. For sharing and discussing everything related to Kiesel Guitars/Carvin Guitars. What I have always wanted with any amp designed for electric acoustics is as pure and natural a sound as possible - no chorus, just a subtle touch of reverb. and I figured I'd put the money I would have spent on a top notch speaker into something different). Spent a hour or so working on dialing in the sound of the new AG300 with both my Martin M-36 (w/K&K) and Gibson J-15 (w/B-Band). As I said previously, I used a AG100D for many years but sold that one last year (it needed a new speaker and while it was nice overall, I always felt it was a bit "muddy" sounding in spite of trying various pre-amps, equalizer, etc. first impressions of first gig with Carvin AG300.
